BTK (bind, torture, kill) Serial Killer

The BTK Murders continue:

Kathryn Bright

BTK had reported at his trial that he had “just been driving by one day and I saw her go into the house with somebody else and I thought ‘that’s a possibility.” He proceeded to break into her house on April 4, 1974, and waited for Kathryn to come home. BTK reported that he had broken into the back door and waited until she and Kevin Bright had entered. BTK hadn’t been expecting Kevin to come so he approached the two saying that he had been “wanted in California and required a car.” He had said the same thing to the Otero family to “kind of ease them and make them feel better.”

 BTK then had one of the two ties the other up, but BTK was unable to remember. BTK had two handguns at the time and as he had started to strangle Kevin, he broke the bonds and jumped up. BTK took his gun and shot him. He then continued to strangle Kathryn who had found back, but he was able “to get the best of her.” BTK had heard a noise in the other room and went back to Kevin, where he tried to strangle Kevin and they fought again. 

Kevin proceeded to shoot at BTK in the shoulder as they fought some more. BTK then jammed the gun by “sticking my finger in there and jammed it.” BTK used the second gun he had and shot Kevin Bright dead. He then went back to Kathryn to “finish the job”, since the “strangulation wasn’t working on her and I used a knife on her.” BTK proceeded to stab her about 2 or 3 times. 

Kevin survived after being shot twice by BTK, but Kathryn did not make it.

Shirley Vian

On March 17, 1977, 24-year-old Shirley Vian’s body was removed from her home. BTK stated in court that he “told Mrs. Vian, that I had a problem with sexual fantasies and I was going to tie her up and that I might have to tie the kids up if she would cooperate.”  She had been found strangled by the works of BTK, but her 3 children remained unharmed. 

Nancy Fox

On December 8, 1977, 25-year-old Nancy Fox had been strangled with stockings in her own home. BTK had said that “When I was trolling through the area, I noticed her go in the house one night….I put her down as a potential victim….I did a little homework. I dropped by once to check the mailbox to see what her name was. I found out where she worked.” 

Marine Hedge

Marine Hedge age 53 had been abducted from her home and found on the side of the road…dead…eight days later on April 27, 1985. She had been with her boyfriend eating dinner and playing bingo that night.

Hedge was found strangled with a pair of pantyhose near her corpse. BTK had taken the body to his church where he photographed the corpse in many bondage positions before dumping her. Hedge lived on the same street as BTK and her killing was named “Project Cookie.” 

Vicki Wegerle

On September 16, 1986, Vicki Wegerle age 28 was found strangled in her bed. Wegerle’s 2-year-old son had been home at the time of her murder but was left unharmed. BTK had resurfaced in 2004 after years of silence with a letter to the Wichita Eagle adding in pictures of her murder and

Dolores Davis

On January 19, 1991, Dolores Davis age 62 had been abducted from her home and turned up 13 days later. Her corpse was found under a bridge where she had been strangled, her hands, feet, and knees were bound by pantyhose. 

Davis had been BTK’s final victim, that is until he had been caught and admitted that he had planned on killing again. BTK had a date set in October of 2004 and had been stalking his next victim.

If these murders aren’t gruesome enough, BTK would take pictures of himself in victims clothing binded up……
