Angela Gizzi is a New York based artist who produces a wide variety of content ranging from abstract to surrealism. Her art developed over time while experimenting with different mediums such as painting, drawing, and graphic design. “I realised that I could use my wide range of talents and combine them to create art that makes people question how I do it.”
CoM: What do you like to use to create this art whether it’s traditional or digital?
All of my ideas come from my sketchbook and I decide which medium would work best with certain imagery. I enjoy painting with oils and when designing digitally, I use Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator.
CoM: How long does it take you to create a piece?
If I am working on a painting, logo, or a t-shirt design, the time until completion varies. A detailed painting could take up to 1 month, whereas a logo could range from 10 minutes to an hour. T-shirt designs usually take me up to 2 days to finish.
CoM: Why do you create? What inspires you to make that type of art?
I create because it gives me a feeling of accomplishment. The way my audience reacts to my work makes me feel like I have a purpose. Inspiration is all around me. Some things that influence me are nature, animals, and architecture.
CoM: Talk to us about your influences with horror and the abnormal!
I really like playing with the concept of mutation and the possibilities of a human or an animal that got infected by something. I’ll add an extra eye or 10 to some of my drawings with oozing skin just for the fun of creating a new creature nobody has ever seen before!
CoM: What are some of your goals as an artist?
My goal is to work in the field that I love for as long as possible. I want to change the way people see the world and process emotions through my art. I hope to give a long lasting effect on the community by helping out businesses and music groups so they can further their professional career. It is important to have a good graphic designer under your wing in order to come off professional to your clients or audience.
Just like anyone, I have struggled with defining myself and my artistic style. There are common themes in my work but I kind of adapt to either what I’m feeling during creating, or adapt to what my client wants me to make.
